California or Bust - With the DaubSquad

We head south into California and discover just how big—and wild—the Golden State really is. From a white-knuckle drive down US-199 to our first glimpse of the Pacific Ocean, this stretch of the journey delivers curves, cliffs, and surprises. After winding through the Smith River National Recreation Area, we arrive in Crescent City, home to Redwood National and State Parks, a crescent-shaped beach, and a harbor full of playful seals. Along the way we learn a few things the hard way: California distances are no joke, not all redwoods are those redwoods, and sometimes you really should wear the right shoes. We explore towering coastal redwoods, tackle Howland Hill Road, find our first California geocache, and soak in cool rainforest air while much of the country is baking. From Bigfoot country to quiet coastal views, this part of the trip was unforgettable. Come along for scenic drives, massive trees, harbor wildlife, and another chapter in our westward adventure.
