Bir zamanlar New York'ta yaşamış olmanın avantajları | Ali Karabey'le Susamlı Bagel Bölüm #17
In the first season of the Sesame Bagel Podcast, guests from Türkiye shared their experiences in New York. In this special series, we've reversed course: We're listening to the stories of those who returned to Turkey from New York. The series is called "Once Upon a Time in New York." The guest on the first episode: Ali Karabey. If you're neither a bagel nor a simit fan, this podcast is for you! We'd like to thank Oguz Law for their support! He faced the dot-com crash, the Enron scandal, September 11th, and the 2008 crisis, leading to two unemployed days in New York. But these losses paved the way for him on a new path. Today, he is the founding partner of 212 VC, Turkey's first venture capital fund. He was one of the first investors in startups like İyziCo, Insider, and Martı. He also empowers NGOs in Turkey through the Civil Society Support Foundation. We spoke with Ali about his struggle to survive in New York, his decision to return to Istanbul, his investment vision, and his ability to be "comfortable with discomfort."
