I got this plant last April, and for almost a whole year it only had two leaves; its growth rate was incredibly slow. However, it finally sprouted a full new leaf in winter. Many friends suggested that Monstera deliciosa should be allowed to climb, so this time I specially prepared sphagnum moss sticks and stuffed them in to create a more moisture-retentive climbing post so that the aerial roots could attach and absorb water. While repotting, I also shared some lesser-known facts about Monstera deliciosa: The scientific name for Monstera deliciosa is *Mongolia deliciosa*, which means "delicious monster" in Chinese because its fruit is a popular fruit in its native habitat. Common names in Taiwan include: 蓬莱蕉 (Penglai Banana), 凤梨蕉 (Fengli Banana), 玉米蕉 (Yumi Banana), and 怪背竹果 (Guaibei Zhuguo). Many people also call it "Telecom Orchid" because it climbs upwards like a telephone pole.
