Caterpillar D315 diesel engine disassembly. ep. #14U

The cost continues to rise! Almost 10K.....YIKES! Let's see what is inside the D315 engine. First we check crankshaft / camshaft end play and gear lash. We disassemble the engine, pulling wet liners & inspect the main / rod bearings. The piston rings tell another story! Plastigage is used to look for engine crankshaft & bearing wear. Things take a strange turn when we pull the first bearing cap. We modify a tool to pull the liners. This is for all second generation Cat / Caterpillar D4 7U & 6U models. 1947-1959 These models feature the improved D315 4 cylinder diesel engine and 2 cylinder gasoline pony motor.. This is on our 1952 Caterpillar toolbar dozer we lovingly call "Weezy" We are operators pretending to be mechanics! Thanks for watching!
