About the Music Charles-Auguste de Bériot (1802-1870) was the founder of the Franco-Belgian school of violin playing and one of the most influential violin pedagogues of the nineteenth century. His students included Vieuxtemps and Wieniawski, and his concertos shaped how an entire generation understood the relationship between technical brilliance and singing tone. The Seventh Concerto opens with a commanding Allegro maestoso that calls for sustained double stops and fast sautillé bowing alongside lyrical, sustained playing. The central Andante is the emotional core of the work: a long solo line that demands real bow control and tonal depth over a transparent string orchestra texture. The Rondo finale is light and rhythmically buoyant, asking as much of the ensemble as of the soloist.
