Gulzar Sa’ab and Pavan Varma talk politics, violence and life in a poetry filled evening

Gulzar Sa’ab recollects his life and work in a conversation with Pavan Varma at Algebra, The Arts and Ideas Club on 2 March 2017. The writer reveals that Suspected Poems, the most recent of his collections of poems translated to English by Pavan Varma, is a commentary on contemporary times as well as the juxtaposition of and the difference between the past and the present. Through every modern man’s voice, the florilegium explores the issues of nepotism in politics, communalism, violence, and the past. Gulzar Sa’ab, born Sampoorna Singh Kalra, is an award-winning lyricist, poet and filmmaker known for his ingenuity. The list of his awards run as long as twenty Filmfare Awards out of which eleven are for being the best lyricist (the maximum ever received), four National Film Awards, Grammy and an Academy Award for Jai Ho (Slumdog Millionaire) and a Sahitya Akademi Award.
