Hello everyone. A new challenge: Preparing the pool surface for painting. There are several ways to repair pool damage, and of course, each method will vary depending on the pool's condition. The repair can be simple or complex, depending on the state of the concrete, old paint, dirt, etc. If there are cracks or small fissures in the concrete, we must first prepare them by chipping away and removing everything that is in poor condition. If the paint is in poor condition with peeling, we must also remove and prepare the surface, as well as any dirt, oils, grease, etc. If there are areas with small bubbles, these will also need to be eliminated before the surface is prepared. If there are areas with only a few bubbles, we can treat them individually, but if the problem is concentrated, it's best to treat the entire affected area. In my small pool, I have a bit of everything (except cracks or leaks from broken surfaces). I have small chips on the walls, as well as some areas with small bubbles, and a stain along the edge of the maximum water level. The damage is more pronounced at the bottom, as time has caused small holes to form in the mortar, making the treatment more laborious. I've been to several places to ask about possible solutions... I've also looked into bonding agents and mortars, but not for water... So, despite not having leaks, my pool isn't losing water. What I was finally advised to use was a special two-component mortar: component A, which is liquid, and component B, which is the dry mortar. The way I solved the problem of chipping, small bubbles, etc., on the surface of the pool was as follows: Sanding: I did the work with a sander, and also by hand. Removal of old paint: I used manual tools, a spatula, and a pickaxe. I even chipped away the damaged paint down to the mortar with the pickaxe. To thoroughly mix the product, I used a mixer at low speed. Application of the product: I used a brush, spatulas, a trowel, a palette knife, etc., making sure to clean the tools used promptly. I treated the small chipped areas one by one, applying the product to each area. In other areas, I applied it all at once. At the bottom, I applied a layer of mortar mixed with the product over the entire surface, giving it a thickness of about two millimeters. I used various tools: sanders, pickaxes, trowels, mixers, buckets, spatulas, brushes, sheets of sandpaper in various grits, and of course, protective gear: knee pads, gloves, safety glasses, appropriate clothing, etc. And the result was better than I expected, both in the application and the final product.
