It was one of the pioneering telenovelas in the genre, as it addressed real-life issues such as HIV/AIDS and homosexuality. The leading man was Gustavo Bermúdez, who, although he had already starred in other important telenovelas, achieved widespread public recognition thanks to this one. Celeste lives with her mother, Lucía, in a small town called Villarica by Lake Sol. It is there that she discovers her mother has incurable cancer, but alongside this pain, she discovers the love of a young man she met at the lake. They decide to keep their names secret and call themselves "Brother Sun" and "Sister Moon," after the legend of Saint Francis of Assisi. They plan to reveal their names the next day, but this doesn't happen because Lucía dies, and Sol, heartbroken, uproots the tree they had planted on the shores of the lake, the place where Celeste would later weep bitterly.
