Is there surgery for penis enlargement? There are two main types of surgeries that help increase penis size, one to increase length and another to increase width, however it is worth remembering that neither of them is recommended and recognized by the Brazilian Society of Urology. Furthermore, this type of surgery usually does not produce the expected results and can even cause serious complications such as penile deformation, scarring, or infection, for example. Therefore, the need for penile enlargement surgery should always be discussed with a urologist to understand the benefits and risks in each case. Surgery to increase penile width can be performed in two ways: Fat injection: liposuction is performed on another part of the body, such as the flanks, abdomen, or legs, and then some of this fat is injected into the penis to fill and add volume; Hyaluronic acid polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) injection: this procedure is known as penile bioplasty and consists of applying PMMA to the erect penis to increase its diameter; however, it is not recommended by the Brazilian Society of Urology or the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery due to the associated risks. In either case, there are high risks involved. Fat injections can lead to penile deformity, while mesh placement is more likely to cause infection, for example. Furthermore, PMMA application carries risks related to the amount of substance injected into the penis, potentially causing an excessive inflammatory response and resulting in necrosis of the organ. When the goal is to increase penis size, surgery is usually recommended to cut the ligament connecting the penis to the pubic bone, allowing the sexual organ to be freed and appear larger. Although this surgery can increase the size of the flaccid penis by about 2 cm, it is common not to notice a difference when the organ is erect. Additionally, due to the ligament being cut, many men report greater penile mobility during erection, which may require some adaptation for sexual intercourse. Other solutions for penis enlargement include using pills or vacuum pumps, which increase blood flow to the sexual organ and can therefore give the sensation of a larger penis. Furthermore, when overweight, the penis can be covered in fat, and therefore a urologist may also recommend liposuction of the genital area, which removes excess fat and better exposes the penis, for example.
