Garmisch Partenkirchen is a popular ski resort and town in South Bavaria. The two towns, Garmisch and Partenkirchen were merged in 1935 into one place. The area was known to be an essential trading route point, from Venice to Augsburg, in medieval times and the renaissance. The town is known for its beautiful handpainted house walls and two city centers. The yearly ski jumping competitions are held in the nearby Olympia Stadium, which is located near the Partnach Gorge.
