Surah Al-Baqarah (The Cow) – A Beautiful Recitation That Soothes the Heart and Protects Against Evil 🌙🕌 Recited by Muhammad Al-Luhaidan 🎧 Revelation of the Surah: A Medinan surah, Al-Baqarah is among the first revelations sent down after the Hijrah. It holds the 2nd position in the order of the Mushaf and is the longest surah of the Qur’an (286 verses). Its name, “Al-Baqarah” (The Cow), comes from the story mentioned in the surah concerning the Children of Israel and the episode of the cow (verses 67 to 73), in which Allah highlights the consequences of hesitation, making excuses, and lacking submission to the truth. Theme of the Surah: The objective of the surah is to establish faith and build the community upon the guidance of Allah: authentic belief, obedience, morality, and rules that organize the life of the believer. The surah brings together major themes, including: • Guidance and the distinction between believers, disbelievers, and hypocrites (at the beginning of the surah). • The extensive reminder addressed to the Children of Israel: blessings, trials, shortcomings, and lessons for the Ummah. • The call to monotheism (Tawḥīd), the confirmation of prophethood, and the truth of the Revelation. • Numerous commandments and foundations of Islamic law: prayer, charity, fasting in Ramadan, marriage, divorce, justice, contracts, debts, the prohibition of usury, and the ethics of transactions. • Major verses that deeply touch the hearts, including Āyat al-Kursī (2:255), and a sublime conclusion with the last two verses (2:285–286), filled with faith, humility, and supplications. Reported Virtues: It is authentically reported that Satan flees from a house in which Surah Al-Baqarah is recited (Sahih Muslim).
