Gunung Anak Dara Lombok 1923

On 6 June 2026, I had the privilege of leading a group of 17 hikers from Mawar Community Services under the Climb For Good programme to Gunung Anak Dara in Lombok, Indonesia. Together with 3 local guides and 10 porters, we made our way to the summit and spent the night camping under the stars. The journey was about much more than reaching a mountain peak. Among the participants were ex-offenders, family members, and community members-individuals from different walks of life coming together with a shared purpose. Watching everyone support, encourage, and look out for one another throughout the climb was both inspiring and deeply fulfilling. For many, this was the highest they had ever climbed-not just in altitude, but in life. We moved as one team for much of the ascent, but as we neared the summit, I encouraged everyone to continue at their own pace. It gave them the opportunity to take in the breathtaking landscape around them and reflect on how far they had come, both on the mountain and in their personal journeys. Before descending the next morning, we distributed trash bags and spent time collecting litter left behind on the trail and summit. It was a simple act, but an important reminder that every adventure should leave a positive impact. As much as the mountain had given to us, we wanted to give something back-to the local community, to future hikers, and to the environment that made this experience possible. Mountains have a way of teaching us that progress isn't always about speed. It's about perseverance, resilience, and the people who walk alongside us. This climb was a reminder that no matter where we start from, we are all capable of reaching greater heights when given the opportunity and support to do so.
