BOSNIA: SARAJEVO: ROAD STRATEGICALLY CUT BY BOSNIAN GOVERNMENT
(3 Jul 1995) Natural Sound Bosnian government forces claim they have cut a strategically important road some 15 kilometres north of Sarajevo, which links Serb territories west of the besieged capital with Pale, the Bosnian Serb stronghold east of the city. Bosnian government forces continue to press forward against Bosnian Serb troops aiming to break the three-year old siege of Sarajevo. Heavy fighting north of the city has continued for over two weeks. The government troops have captured high ground in the area and now claim to have cut a vital supply road between rebel Serb forces and their headquarters in Pale. Both sides have paid heavily with casualties, in what has been some of the most vicious fighting in the area for a long time. The push by government forces began over two weeks ago, aimed at breaking the Serb's stranglehold on the besieged city after the U.N. backed off their hard-line stance against Radovan Karadzic's army. The Serb reply has been heavy shelling of civilian and U.N. targets in Sarajevo, which killed at least 13 people this weekend alone.
