The Book Of Enoch Describes Where Demons Come From — And Why They Need Your Body

1 Enoch 15 records God himself explaining what demons actually are — the spirits of the dead Nephilim, not the fallen angels you were taught. The Gospels are crowded with demons, and the Bible never once explains where they came from. This episode opens the book that did. The New Testament's first readers already knew the answer, because it was written down in the Book of Enoch: when the Watchers took human wives on Mount Hermon, their children, the giant Nephilim, were born with a fatal seam running through them, mortal flesh from their mothers and a deathless spirit from their fathers. When the giants died, the flesh returned to the earth, but the spirit could not die and could not rise. It stayed where it fell. In 1 Enoch 15, God tells Enoch directly: "Now the giants, who are produced from the spirits and flesh, shall be called evil spirits upon the earth, and on the earth shall be their dwelling." Once that origin is open beside the Gospels, the strangest demon behaviour suddenly has a mechanism. Why unclean spirits wander "dry places, seeking rest" in Matthew 12. Why Legion begs Jesus not to be sent into the abyss, and pleads its way into a herd of pigs instead, because to a spirit that once had a body, even a pig is better than nothing. We follow the question the flood raises (if the giants drowned, why are demons still here?) into the Book of Jubilees, where Noah begs God to bind the spirits and a prince named Mastema is granted one tenth of them to keep working among men. And we hear the early Church say all of this out loud: Justin Martyr and Athenagoras, writing to Roman emperors in the second century, taught that the demons are the souls of the giants.
