[Rekimeshi], or "Historical Recreation Meals," recreates historical food cultures in the modern age. Today, we've recreated "battlefield rations" from three different countries, based on the actual meals soldiers ate on the battlefield during World War I. From the Allied Powers: British Army's [Macaroni and Hard Biscuits], American Army's [Bacon and Bean Stew and Military Bread]. From the Central Powers: German Army's [Komisbrot (Military Rye Bread) and Potato Soup]. In World War I, where trench warfare dragged on for a long time, differences in supply lines, national power, and industrial capacity directly reflected the meals soldiers ate. By comparing these battlefield rations, we hope you can get a sense of the environment and the food that sustained soldiers' lives.
