We laughed, we cried, and honestly? This might be one of the most heartfelt and uplifting sci-fi films we’ve seen in a long time. The movie perfectly balances humor, suspense, emotional storytelling, and mind-blowing science concepts in a way that completely pulled us in from the start. One of the biggest highlights is the relationship of Ryland Grace and Rocky at the center of the story, which develops in such an unexpected and emotional way. Watching the trust and friendship grow throughout the film had us smiling one minute and tearing up the next. The movie does such a great job making you care deeply about the characters and the impossible mission they’re facing. Visually, the film is stunning, with incredible space sequences and gorgeous effects that make the scale of the story feel massive. But at its core, Project Hail Mary is really about hope, sacrifice, friendship, and humanity — and that emotional core is what truly got us. We were instantly hooked by the mystery surrounding Ryland Grace waking up alone in space, the emotional reveals about Earth’s crisis, the incredible first contact moments, and the evolving friendship that became the heart of the movie. We laughed at the fun banter and lighter moments, were blown away by the scientific problem-solving, and absolutely cried during the emotional sacrifices and ending. Ryan Gosling (Barbie, La La Land) delivers an incredible performance as Ryland Grace, balancing humor, fear, intelligence, and emotion perfectly throughout the film. Sandra Hüller (Anatomy of a Fall, The Zone of Interest) brings intensity and heart to her role, helping ground the story emotionally.
