Katy Bell: The red squirrel story in Northern Ireland

Katy Bell (Ulster Wildlife) Abstract Ulster Wildlife has been carrying out presence/absence surveys of red squirrels, grey squirrels and pine martens across Northern Ireland. This data gives us an insight into how these three species are doing and the relationship between the three. This data allows us to better understand these species in order to better support red squirrel and pine marten conservation locally. This has led to the development of a Red Squirrel Conservation Strategy for Northern Ireland which sets out aims and actions to ensure that red squirrel conservation is a priority in the long term. About Katy Katy Bell works as Senior Conservation Officer for Ulster Wildlife where she manages terrestrial species conservation projects including red squirrels, barn owls and hedgehogs. She studied Zoology and has an MSc in Conservation Biology. Her background is in research, ecology and conservation.
