The 150th Anniversary of the Golden Spike

On May 10, 2019, thousands from around the world gathered at Golden Spike National Historic Park in Promontory, Utah to commemorate the driving of the last spike and the completion of the transcontinental railroad. The ceremony included local and national politicians, descendants of the workers who built the railroad, speeches by representatives of the Republic of Ireland and People’s Republic of China, a keynote address by a renowned historian, a re-enactment of the events of 10 May 1869, an original musical, fireworks and military flyover with F35s from nearby Hill AFB.
