50 años del deslizamiento de Quebrada Blanca: el peor desastre vial ocurrido en Colombia

#QuebradaBlanca #Landslides #Villavicencio On June 28, 1974, in the Quebrada Blanca sector of Guayabetal, in southeastern Cundinamarca, a massive landslide swept away part of the old road to the Llanos region, dragging cars, buses, and even bulldozers, resulting in the deaths of approximately 500 people. Fifty years later, the road is different, but landslides and road closures continue on this important highway. For this reason, several technical teams from the Colombian Geological Survey have traveled to the area to survey the Quebrada Blanca watershed. We are analyzing historical data, studying the mountains and water, collecting samples, and analyzing why landslides frequently occur in this area. Our goal is to generate new information that will allow us to understand the geological characteristics of this section of the road to the Llanos region so that disasters like the one in Quebrada Blanca do not happen again.
