His heart was filled with sad forebodings; he feared he would no longer find his father alive. Arriving at the station, he went to the stationmaster and asked for free horses. The stationmaster inquired where he was supposed to go and announced that the horses sent from Kistenevka had been waiting for him for four days. Soon, the old coachman Anton, who had once led him around the stables and looked after his little horse, appeared before Vladimir Andreevich. Anton's eyes filled with tears upon seeing him, he bowed, said that the old master was still alive, and ran to harness the horses.
