Sick in Moab | Wilson Arch, Newspaper Rock & Old Hollywood

My final morning near Moab begins with a quiet walk through Wind Whistle Campground, and my sinus problems getting worse. Before retreating to a unique motel in Monticello, Utah, I climb to Wilson Arch for the morning light, stop in Moab for tea and emails, then head south toward Canyonlands National Park. Along the way, I visit Newspaper Rock, become unusually invested in preserving ancient doodles, quote Clark Griswold for reasons that made sense at the time, and discover that Roughlock Resort was created by a former Hollywood prop master who worked on classic Western films with John Wayne. Apparently, the film industry refuses to stop following me. The day ends with tea, some much-needed rest, and plans to drive into Colorado to meet my friend Chris tomorrow in Creede. Day 39 of a solo road trip about books, places, and starting over.
