At the age of 16, he volunteered for the Naval Air Reserve Training Program and underwent approximately 2 years and 3 months of training as a reconnaissance officer. Then, in May 1945, he received orders to sortie and departed from Kanoya. He boarded the "Ginga" land-based bomber, which he had trained with, and headed out with his comrades for a suicide attack... Mr. Kuramoto said that he had had opportunities to talk about his war experiences at schools and other places, but he felt that there wasn't much interest from people other than those who were knowledgeable or interested in this field. Mr. Kuramoto, who was prepared to die in a suicide attack, says "I want you to protect peace," and his words resonate deeply. This is the final installment of Mr. Kuramoto's story.
