Allan Dimmick Funeral Service

Allan John Dimmick passed away on July 13,2026 in Emmett, Idaho at the age of 84. He was born to Marietta Bernadette Flaherty and Ross Allan Dimmick in Boise, Idaho on March 24, 1942. “Al” grew up in the North End of Boise and attended high school at Saint Teresa’s Academy before joining Intermountain Gas as a meter reader and later being promoted to work in the fledgling field of data processing. He made the decision of a lifetime to join the Idaho Air National Guard full time and continue in the data processing field where he served his country with honor, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant in 1994. He married Sharlene Sue Dorsey in 1966, and they were married for 59 years before his passing. Their son, Christopher Allan Dimmick, was born in 1967 in Boise. In later life, as part of his retirement adventure, Al and Sue bought a cherry orchard and moved to Emmett where they lived next to their son and his family for many years. Al was the first one to say that he didn't know a cherry from a potato but dedicated himself to learn everything he could about growing stone fruit, so much so that he served as a commissioner on the Idaho Cherry Commission. He loved working with the Gem County Chamber of Commerce in promoting cherries at the Emmett Cherry Festival, and he and Sue were even honored as Cherry Festival parade grand marshals. He found great joy in working in the orchards alongside his family, especially his grandchildren, and teaching them the importance of hard work. He was very devoted to his church congregation, at the Catholic Church of the Sacred Heart in Emmett where he participated, contributed, and made many friends over many years. Al had six grandchildren and a great-grandson who loved him very much. He loved to take them fishing, camping, out for ice cream, and on ATV rides. He was an avid outdoorsman and Boise State University fan. Al also loved to tell anyone he could that he was 1/4th Irish. Whether it was in the Bench Optimist Club, Ducks Unlimited, or other community organizations, Al found purpose in serving and helping others. He was loved by many and made a new friend wherever he went. If he didn’t know you, he wanted to get to know you! He loved to make people laugh and gave big bear hugs. He is survived by his wife, Sue; his brother; Mike; sister, Roseanne; his son Christopher; his six grandchildren, Cecilia, Adam, Andrew, Sophia, Savannah, and Sadie; step-grandson, Ashton; daughter in-law, Laura, and great-grandson, Cyrus. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the Potter Funeral Chapel. Services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emmett on Wednesday, July 22, 2026 with the viewing starting at 10:00 AM, the Rosary at 10:30 AM and the Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Arrangements are in the care of the Potter Funeral Chapel.
