Pangea

PANGEA is a work for Symphonic Band inspired by the theory of the primordial supercontinent and the vast ocean that surrounded it. Deeply programmatic in nature, the piece leads the listener through a musical narrative that traverses eras of creation, destruction, and the planet's renewal. The work begins with “Pangea”, portraying the grandeur and serenity of the only existing continent. The sounds are broad, stable, and majestic, suggesting a world still undivided and monumental. In “Panthalassa Ocean”, the music dives into the vastness of the primordial ocean, where fluid textures and undulating motifs evoke the deep and constant movement of the waters that enveloped the entire landmass. Tension rises in “The Separation of Continents”, a section marked by violence and transformation. Seismic sounds, abrupt gestures, and accumulated energy illustrate earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and the geological chaos of the moment the Earth's crust fragments. After the devastation, “After the Destruction” offers a space of lament and stillness. It is a musical landscape of grief and silence, where loss echoes, but where small signs of rebirth also begin to emerge: lighter colours, emerging melodies, and new vital impulses. The journey concludes in “The New World”, a celebration of nature's regenerative power. This section represents the resurgence of life—more vibrant and diverse—affirming the Earth's capacity to recreate itself, transform, and give rise to new worlds. Pangea, as a sonic journey, exalts the creative and destructive forces of the planet, reminding us that the Earth's evolution is a continuous cycle of ending and rebirth."
