"Joe Fingers", Exploring Joe Morello's Master Studies Book 2 - Part 4
Here is the next part of my ongoing series on how to use and play Joe Morello's Master Studies books. In this lesson I demonstrate the hand exercise "Joe Fingers" on pages 43-47 from Master Studies Volume 2. This exercise is great for developing the wrists and fingers as well as your single stroke rolls. I am leading with my left hand for all of the examples as is written in the book. This study was originally written by George Lawrence Stone, the author of Stick Control and Joe's teacher. It appeared in an issue of International Musician a very long time ago. In this video I demonstrate Stones version and then Morello's version of the study. If you want to follow along you will need to have the book since copyright laws prevent me from posting any of the music on the screen. You should have it anyway if you are serious about the instrument and your technique. I am using a Quite Tone Drum Mute from the 1990's for a pad.
