The new and old paths are abandoned, and it's only near Ouro Preto that things get better. -It's not possible to follow any of the paths just by the markers; several of them no longer exist, while others lead you to abandoned paths or trails. Some markers are hidden, torn down, or stolen. A GPS with a recorded route is essential. Some of the paths pass through cities, so finding your way back becomes a real challenge. The people I asked didn't know what it was about; they seemed to be speaking Greek. There's no such thing as a 100% dirt road; it varies, from dirt to asphalt, back to dirt, etc. I chose the Lander because I lack the off-road skills to do it with a big trail. The Lander was fun; the 800 would be a torment. There were places I went to with the Lander that I'd still be there with the 800.
