Day 07 | Phase 1 Final Project — The Twisting Ribbon Pavilion

Day 7 is project day — the Phase 1 finale. We put everything from Days 1 through 6 together, and we push it further, into a single, complete architectural object with real visual ambition: the Twisting Ribbon Pavilion. The pavilion has a flowing spine curve, perpendicular ribs positioned with Divide Curve and Plane Normal, a Sine-eased twist that decelerates elegantly instead of spinning mechanically, a second nested inner rib layer twisting at its own independent rate, a rhythmic double-Sine bloom that ripples the radius, rib thickness, and window size together, spiral arc openings, local extrusion for structural depth, and a double-shell lofted skin — an outer roof surface with a second, nested inner surface visible through the openings. Twelve sliders control the entire design. Move one and you get a dramatically different pavilion in seconds. This is your first taste of what computational design actually feels like in practice — and it is the first thing in this course that looks genuinely ready for an architecture portfolio. What you will build: A flowing spine curve referenced from Rhino into Grasshopper Divide Curve to create equally spaced rib positions, with points, tangents, and parameters Plane Normal to orient each rib perpendicular to the spine A twist rotation, driven by the curve parameter, that spins each rib further than the last A rhythmic Sine-driven radius that blooms in the middle and tapers at the ends Arc ribs (not full circles) that leave a window-like opening, oriented by the twist Extrude, using each rib's own local axis, to give the ribs structural depth Loft, to stitch the open rib edges into a single flowing roof surface A grouped, labeled Pavilion Controls panel Design variations you will generate: Minimal Bloom: few ribs, gentle twist, wide bloom — open, sculptural, airy Dense Spiral: many ribs, aggressive twist, tight bloom — a tunnel-like spiral corridor Wide Window: large opening angle on every rib — reads almost as a lattice shell Architecture applications: This typology echoes real contemporary work — twisting exoskeleton pavilions, rib canopies with modulated openings, grid shell-adjacent forms. Your definition is a real architectural tool, not a beginner placeholder. #Grasshopper3D #ParametricPavilion #ParametricDesign #Rhino8 #ComputationalDesign #ParametricArchitecture #ArchitectureStudent #GrasshopperTutorial #DigitalDesign #ArchitecturePortfolio
