SINGLE LINE REEFING YOUTUBE

Reefing’s not a big deal. It’s as much part of everyday sailing as pulling up the main halyard. Time was when all reefing was basic slab systems or a very sorry arrangement that rolled the mainsail around the boom. Slab reefing is pretty sophisticated these days and the round-the-boom system has been replaced by efficient in-boom reefing. What’s relatively new is so-called single-line reefing. It has its uses and is fitted to more and more yachts, so here’s a how-to video on making it work with no drama. It wouldn’t be my own choice, but there’s a lot of it around, so off we go for a quick sail! Thanks to MDL Marinas for helping me make this video, and thanks also to my shipmate Toby.
