Terminology, Part 1
An overview of the Cantonese names for 'hands', strikes, and concepts you learn early on. SPECIAL NOTE: the 捶 is probably better written as 搥. While both characters literally mean to beat/pound on something, the 垂 in one character means to droop down, while the 追 in the other means to chase, connoting a more straightforward action. For reference, the characters used are given below. Chinese words typically have a broad range of meanings that depend on context (and sometimes on region). 破中 Po Zhong 日字衝捶 / 搥 Yut Jee Chung Cheu 逼 Bik 攤 Tan 手 Suw 掌 Jeung 護 Wu 伏 Fook 疾 Jut 拍 Pak 㩒 Gum 攔 Laan 分 Fun 枕 Jum 推 Teui 橫 Waang 鏢 Biu 耕 Gaang 底 Dai 綁 Bong 鞭 Bien 托 Tok 甩 Lut 捆 Kwun Go to https://appliedwingchun.org/shop to order the original videos, now available only as digital downloads.
