Patricia Smith - Blood Dazzler
Four-time slam champion, National Poetry Series winner and finalist for the National Book Award, Patricia Smith is a writer and performer like no other. This poem is entitled "34" and is the poem that started her on the road to writing Blood Dazzler, a book in voices about Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath. The voices in this poem are the 34 senior citizens who were left behind to die in an old-age home during the storm. She has given them some final words. Brilliantly. www.poetz.com
