实拍马来西亚贫民窟,一家10口人月收入仅100美元,只能居住在海上的铁皮屋内,乞丐随处可见
We are a Chinese couple, Wentao and Feifei, who love to travel, and we are currently continuing our round-the-world trip. What is it like to live in a Malaysian slum? A family of ten lives in a makeshift tin shack on the sea, earning a meager 25 RMB per day. The father has passed away, and only the mother earns money working as a restaurant waitress. Their meals are meager, the toilet drains directly into the sea, the shack is bare, and they cross a dilapidated log bridge. Fresh water has to be purchased from the city. This is another side of Semporna, Malaysia. Semporna is one of the most popular travel destinations for Chinese tourists. Its jelly-like sea and beautiful beaches make it one of the most beautiful resorts in Southeast Asia. However, the other side of Semporna is poverty. The local Bajau people, the sea gypsies, were stateless for many years. Now, many Bajau have Malaysian citizenship, but they are still forced to live in makeshift tin shacks on the sea, barely making a living. In Semporna town, begging children and women were a common sight. They weren't asking for money; they genuinely needed food. While resting by the roadside, a local child asked me for a drink. I thought he wanted the bottle to sell, but she promptly drank it all. We even witnessed city management officers confiscating food from street vendors. Despite their difficult circumstances, most Bajau people remained warm and kind. A little girl kindly guided us, and children from the slums chatted happily with us. On the way back, we witnessed a beautiful sunset. During this long journey, these connections between people were the most memorable. Now, let's follow Wentao (the author) into the lives of people in the Malaysian slums.
