The Treaty of Versailles in 1787 – a treaty many call “treasonous,” but which was never actually implemented. The cries for help from 19th-century missionaries – in the context of bloody persecution, inadvertently became the pretext for colonialism to open fire. The artillery barrages off the coast of Da Nang in 1858 – when Vietnam fell into the vortex of colonialism. The blood of 117 Vietnamese Martyrs – a powerful testament that this faith is not foreign, but has taken root in the very soil of Vietnam.
