Director Yeon Sang-ho’s zombie film The Swarm was screened as an invited entry at the Cannes International Film Festival, the world’s largest film festival. It is Director Yeon’s third zombie film, following Train to Busan (2016) and Peninsula (2020). A mass infection outbreak occurs in a large shopping mall in the city center, and survivors—including biotechnologist Kwon Se-jung (played by Jun Ji-hyun), building security guard Hyun-seok (played by Ji Chang-wook), and Hyun-seok’s sister Hyun-hee (played by Kim Shin-rok)—struggle to obtain a vaccine and escape. Seo Young-chul, the character who most dramatically clashes with Jun Ji-hyun, the leader of the survivor group, is played by actor Koo Kyo-hwan. In an interview with domestic media held in Cannes, actor Koo Kyo-hwan named Train to Busan as his favorite zombie film. Regarding the film *The Swarm*, he stated, "Although the worldview is different, I think it can be considered a spiritual sequel (to *Train to Busan*)." "There is fun in watching the story unfold as the ensemble of various characters passes the baton, so I think it would be good to watch it for that kind of enjoyment," he said. The Hive*, which premiered at Cannes, will be released in Korea on the 21st.
