South Africans paying more for electricity from July 1

Starting 1st of July, South African households faced yet another costly financial roadblock. New steep municipal electricity tariffs came into effect across the country. Approved by the National Energy Regulator of South Africa for the 2026/27 municipal financial year, these increases land right in the dead of winter when household energy consumption naturally peaks.
