Improvisation Four: Maqam | Taqsim

Improvisation Four: Maqam | Taqsim Improv. Four was inspired by the 'Oud Improvisation' by Riad Sunbati that we watched in class. It revolves around the concept of the maqam and the taqsim, from classical "Arabic" music. The basic idea of maqam/taqsim is that the maqam is the scale made up of cells of notes, or jins, that creates or evokes a certain emotion.The taqsim is the way of presenting the maqam to the audience to create a song. I have tried to avoid as many 'wrong' notes i.e. notes outside of the particular maqam i am using, as when this happens it completely changes the scale, and thus changes the emotion conveyed.
