Parkinson's Journey: Different views of the same daily task: “I’m Fine” vs “You Need Help”
Parkinson's Journey April 2026 "Patient & Care Partner’s different views of the same daily task: “I’m Fine” vs “You Need Help” "I'm fine." "No, you really need help." One situation. Two completely different realities. This isn't just a communication problem. It's a clinical phenomenon. It is common for people with Parkinson’s and their care partners to view daily abilities differently. Join Josefa Domingos, PT, PhD. and John Dean, MA CCC-SLP for a practical talk on why these differences happen, how movement symptoms, stress, and mood can shape each person’s perspective, and how to recognize and manage these mismatches in everyday life. This session will explore: ∙ Why people with PD and their care partners so often rate the same abilities differently ∙ What the research tells us about where disagreement is most likely ∙ Why this matters for care — and what to do about it This is a session for both people living with Parkinson's AND their families — together, and with their separate voices. The Inova Parkinson and Movement Disorders Center is part of the largest nonprofit healthcare system in Virginia.
