Today, we headed to Çanakkale for our kayaking trip. I loaded up my kayak/kayak gear, got out on the water, and spent a full 8.5 hours. The weather was initially calm and sunny, but that's winter for you… When the sun disappeared and the wind picked up, the cold suddenly penetrated to the bone. The day wasn't particularly "bountiful" in terms of fishing, but I didn't come back empty-handed. I caught one Lipsos (Adabeyi) and one beautiful Fangri/Coral. But the real highlight of the day was something else: I unfortunately snatched a huge trophy fish. The footage is on video, and honestly, it was incredibly frustrating. My fellow kayaker, Necati Onur, was with me on this fishing trip. He'd missed a fish a little while before me, and I teased him… Then fate intervened, and this time I missed one. The rest of the day was spent laughing, joking, and chatting. At the end of the day, I met up with Barış abi and we made our first ever Trakonya cehiche. The recipe was a real surprise: We prepared it with scorpionfish, grapefruit, lime, lemon, rock salt, and olive oil. The result was an incredibly refreshing taste. That wasn't all. Barış abi (brother Barış) surprised us again: he made fried calamari from calamari caught in Babakale. And to go with it, my dear Güzide abla (sister Güzide) prepared a legendary tarator sauce. The video ends in true Kayak Adamlar style: the day at sea ends, the table begins, and the conversation continues. Safety is much more critical at sea in winter. The wind and weather can change suddenly, so you must plan accordingly. Always take precautions when you go out on the water.
