Overcoming Your Tendency To Control
In this episode, we discuss a tendency among some partners to control their loved ones. We try to understand the underlying motivation behind their need to control and offer suggestions for overcoming it. We explain that controlling behavior stems from difficulty believing that one is lovable, which leads the person to doubt their partner. There is a lack of trust in the other person and a tendency to think that the other person doesn’t care and wants to abandon the relationship. This causes the person to complain, demand, and control their partner to guarantee they won’t lose them. However, this controlling behavior can cause the very loss that the person fears.
