Should resistance be below 10 ohms? Neutral is neutral and ground is ground? The best grounding is TT. The best grounding is TN. The best grounding is TNC. One rod is enough. You've certainly heard these phrases uttered by electrical professionals (electricians, electrical engineers, electrotechnicians, etc.). But what's the truth in all this? Is simply having a grounding system enough? Is one grounding rod really sufficient? Should I connect my ground to metallic structures? And the neutral? Should I connect it to ground or not? In this video, we present tests with grounding completely isolated from metallic structures and the neutral, showing what happens if a metallic casing accidentally becomes energized. There are countless myths on the internet about grounding, but to avoid the risk of error, it's ideal to consult those who understand the subject, which is NBR-5410. Following the standard's recommendations is the best way to ensure safe and reliable grounding. There is no single best way; it all depends on the type of installation. If the building is already constructed, it may be more advantageous to use a TNC grounding system. If construction is starting from scratch, it would be much better to create a ring (grounding electrode) around the residence and install a TNC-S grounding system. Another myth is that the grounding resistance must be less than 10 ohms. This is only partially true. For example, in a TT grounding system, even with a resistance below 10 ohms, you risk the circuit breaker not tripping because the leakage current is less than its nominal current. In this case, the standard requires the use of a residual current device (RCD) in all circuits. The most important thing in a grounding system is not that the resistance is extremely low; the key word is "EQUIPOTENTIAL BONDING". If you achieve maximum equipotentiality in your grounding system, preventing potential differences between the masses and metallic structures of the installation, then the grounding resistance factor will not be so important. Always remember, folks: The best place to find information on how to design a good grounding system is the NBR-5410 standard. Don't be misled by the fallacies of electricians who consider themselves experienced but don't follow the standards.
