Two days after getting back from Bali, right in the middle of a government shutdown, I found out that 10% of the company was laid off and I was one of them. That hit harder than I expected. It left a bad taste in my mouth about jumping straight back into work and pretending everything was fine. So instead of rushing into the next thing, I asked my dad for help building something I actually needed. A reset. A West Coast road trip. I traveled down to Alabama and for the past eight days we worked, long days, sore backs, late nights, with a record low number of arguments. Turning this truck into something that could carry me and my best friend, Willy across the country. She earned the name Big Betty.
