Basic idea: Converting a "complex" linear network into a basic circuit with a source, internal resistance, and load resistance. For this purpose, the equivalent source (equivalent voltage source, equivalent current source) and the equivalent internal resistance are determined for the active two-terminal network, while the resistance or combination of resistances (equivalent resistance) is adopted unchanged for the passive two-terminal network.
