Trivia "Bael Egg," an ancient Thai fruit, is a deciduous summer tree that grows in mixed deciduous forests, mixed deciduous and dry dipterocarp forests, and in open, arid areas. Its raw fruit is often candied for dessert. Ripe fruit has a sweet, creamy flavor and a unique, delicate aroma. Villagers in Maharat District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, enjoy eating the ripe fruit with steamed sticky rice or grilling it and boiling it in bael juice. Young shoots are eaten fresh with minced fermented fish.
