Psicologia Social Crítica: como a psicologia conecta indivíduo e sociedade?

How do our experiences and feelings connect with the world? How can psychology go beyond the individual? In this Conversation in Psychology video, we will address a crucial topic for understanding human relationships and society: Critical Social Psychology. We will go back in time a bit to understand the dilemma between the individual and society, going through Psychological and Sociological Social Psychology, until we arrive at Critical Social Psychology. This approach is based on theories such as Marx's dialectical materialism, Historical-Cultural Psychology, and seeks a critical stance towards social practices and knowledge, with a clear commitment: to promote social change and combat oppression. We use the example of urban violence to illustrate how different perspectives approach this issue. We will see how this approach emerged in Brazil and why it is so relevant to this day. We will show some pillars of this approach, its relational conception of the social, and its importance for the Brazilian context and its current challenges.
