We spent three days in Malalcahuello, in the Araucanía Andes of Chile, taking advantage of the long weekend for Chile's national holiday. We definitely believe it must be one of the most beautiful places in southern Chile. We traveled by car from Santiago (we rented one at the Santiago airport and saved a significant amount of money on airfare). After a nine-hour drive, and a short stop at Salto del Laja, we arrived in Curacautín, where we set out to explore our first destination: Cañón del Blanco. To reach these hot springs, we traveled about half an hour from Curacautín, along the road that leads to the entrance to Laguna Captren in Conguillio National Park. After that, we arrived in Malalcahuello and stayed in four-person domes for around $105,000 pesos per night or US$116. https://www.airbnb.cl/rooms/649796171... The next day, we went trekking to Laguna Blanca, a beautiful trail that blew us away with its snowy appearance. We hiked for 5 hours, but it normally takes 4 hours round trip, as the snow slowed us down.
