Ep. Final - O Túnel da Mantiqueira
Concluding the first season of the "Adventures in the History of Coffee" series, let's explore the Mantiqueira Tunnel, a site of battles during the 1932 Revolution and also a landmark in the railway expansion into the interior of São Paulo. With Getúlio Vargas' rise to power, the cycle of alternating power between São Paulo and Minas Gerais was broken, ending the "Coffee-with-Milk" Republic. Paulista discontent led to an armed uprising two years later under the banner of drafting a new Constitution for the country. Many battles erupted along the state borders, one of the main ones being the Mantiqueira Tunnel, which we will explore in this video.
