An Introduction to Knitting 1x1 Cables

The DNA cable featured in the GENEie hat knitting patterns contains four different 1x1 cables. In this video, I will share an introduction to this technique. I will discuss my favorite cable needle, how to hold a stitch in front or in back of your work, and how to complete the cable stitch. Once you understand what the cable instructions mean (i.e. slip 1 onto a cable needle and hold in front, K1, K1 from cable needle) then you can apply this method to multiple varieties of cables. This video features how to create four different 1x1 cables using a cable needle. It is possible to complete many of these stitches without a cable needle but I think that using a cable needle is easier for beginners.
