You can even primitive camp right on the beach here if it's allowed at the time of your visit! There are marshes, lakes nearby, and a kayak trail. But, be forewarned, there are mosquitoes here. Many, many, many mosquitoes. Yes, we read the reviews, but we are Floridians. We know mosquitoes. However, the campground sits in the middle of a marshy area and mosquitoes swarm the area. The beach is just a short walk away and there are hardly any mosquitoes there. So, it just depends on how much you want to brave the buggers. We recommend plugging up any access they have to your RV and enter/ exit quickly. They are not as bad in the wind and the rain, bonus! Still, the sites are large, many pull throughs, and the beach is beautiful! What we love about Sea Rim State Park: 1. Large, pull through sites 2. Easy walk to the Gulf of Mexico 3. No crowds 4. Firm packed beach, easy to walk on the beach, ride your bike and drive on...but do be careful, I saw a truck almost get stuck! 5. Inexpensive to stay...$20 a night 6. Nice boardwalk What we didn't love about Sea Rim State Park: 1. No showers here, only vault toilets 2. Dump station is 3/4 of a mile away 3. Mosquitoes!!! 4. Very limited Verizon service We are happy for our experiences here at Sea Rim State Park. We enjoyed our Thanksgiving meal and celebrated plugging the dash where the critters were coming in. Full disclosure, we did leave two days early mainly because we didn't want to pull our port a tote way down the road and we were tired of the mosquitoes. Next stop, which our site had availability two days before our scheduled arrival - yay! - is Sam Houston Jones State Park located in Lake Charles, Louisiana!
