How to protect plants from the intense Heat Waves that we have been experiencing since the end of winter? Summer is still a few months away, but the heat is already at its peak across our territory and makes it essential that we take some extra care with our garden and plants. In this video we bring you 7 tips for caring for plants during heat blisters. With intense heat, the evaporation of water retained in the soil increases and at the same time plants need more water to withstand the heat and not dry out, so placing a thick layer of dry mulch on the ground will help retain moisture in the soil. and the temperature of the fresh earth, also serving as protection and 'home' for the microorganisms responsible for soil fertility to establish themselves in this environment. It is necessary to water daily during the coolest hours of the day. Why? To prevent most of the irrigation water from being lost to evaporation due to the strong sun, this way the plants have more time to absorb the water before it evaporates. In intense heat, it is recommended to use shade so that the sun does not fall so intensely on the plants. Depending on the intensity of the sun in your region and also what type of plants you want to protect, you will choose the degree of your shade, from 20 to 90% protection. The most common is 30%, which is used for most crops in the south and southeast regions, for warmer regions such as the center-west, north and northeast, 50 to 70% is more suitable in some locations. It is worth remembering that if you are transplanting seedlings during this hot period, it is important to do so in the late afternoon and ensure that these seedlings are in partial shade until they become stronger and establish their roots.
