How do you restore and conserve a bald eagle specimen when possessing a bald eagle feather is illegal? How do you clean feathers or construct toupees for fragile taxidermied birds? At the National Park Service Museum Conservation Lab, organic objects conservator Fran Ritchie and objects intern Elena Best explain some of the artful techniques and extreme challenges their team faces as they treat a bald eagle, pheasant and grouse from the William Floyd Estate at Fire Island National Seashore.
