Loyalty matters." — Sleepy Don — Al Capone is one of the most iconic figures in American Mob History. Starting his journey from the streets of Brooklyn, allying with notorious gangsters like Lucky Luciano and Frankie Yale, he became a boss under the mentorship of Johnny Torrio in the Windy City. After being the boss of the Chicago Mob, the Outfit, he ran a bloody business and had no hesitation in eliminating his rivals. During the Prohibition years, his organization generated billions in today's money. He had been seen as a kind of heroic figure by the public until the infamous St. Valentine's Day Massacre. After the St. Valentine's Day Massacre, he was labelled as the 'Public Enemy Number One' by law enforcement, and a hunt started to take him down. In 1931, he was convicted of tax evasion and sentenced to serve 11 years in federal prison. He served for eight years, including five in the famous Alcatraz, and then paroled in 1939, as neurosyphilis progressively eroded his mental faculties. Capone spent the rest of his life in his home in Miami Beach, Florida, and died on January 25, 1947. Let's hear his story. Enjoy the show. Subscribe for more mob content.
